REPUBLICANS, DEMOCRATS, & LIBERTARIAN LEADERS ON LEADERSHIP

Message from Aubrey R. Taylor, Publisher of Houston Businesss Connections Newspaper

These are indeed difficult times we're living in today. But are we in a crisis situation? The answer to this question could depend largely on who you ask. One person may say, "times are getting better." While another may say, "these are the worst times in American history." But who can we trust during times like these? You know the answer to this question...don't you? As a fellow believer you already know. So why are we so divided? Why does it seem like we're more divided today than almost anytime before in our nation's history? I'm not sure. But, we must understand that before we're Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, or Socialists we're brothers and sisters in Christ. And even if you happen to be an unbeliever, you're still an American before you're a Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, or Socialist. With that said, we must begin to allow our spirits to guide us as we sort our way through this seemingly valley moment in American history. But our best days as a nation are still right out there before us; not behind us my friend. I believe if we're to step into them, we're going to have to elect the right people to serve us. Our elected officials should represent our own personal ideals and beliefs. But how do we identify the right ones? Well, I'm glad you asked that question. Back in 2008 during the election that saw us elect our first African American president, I asked Republican, Democratic and Libertarian leaders from across Texas this very question. And their statements seem to have more value today than they did back then. Texas Supreme Court Justice, Wallace B. Jefferson issued this response to my question, "The public benefits from a steady hand during times of crisis -- someone dedicated to evaluating whatever emergency is presented; conferring with all affected, and then making clear decisions together with contingency plans for unanticipated complications." To guide our nation, families, and businesses out of the place where we find ourselves today, we're going to have to do it together as Americans. Be blessed, empowered, inspired, motivated and even rejuvenated if need be; this ain't the time to get tired! Onward to 2012...And may God continue to bless America...the home of the free!
