REPUBLICANS, DEMOCRATS, & LIBERTARIAN LEADERS ON LEADERSHIP

Message from Aubrey R. Taylor, Publisher of Houston Businesss Connections Newspaper

These are indeed difficult times we're living in today. But are we in a crisis situation? The answer to this question could depend largely on who you ask. One person may say, "times are getting better." While another may say, "these are the worst times in American history." But who can we trust during times like these? You know the answer to this question...don't you? As a fellow believer you already know. So why are we so divided? Why does it seem like we're more divided today than almost anytime before in our nation's history? I'm not sure. But, we must understand that before we're Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, or Socialists, we're brothers and sisters in Christ. And even if you happen to be a non-believer, you're still an American before you're a Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, or Socialist. With that said, we must begin to allow our Spirits to guide us as we sort our way through this seemingly valley moment in American history. But our best days as a nation are still right out there before us; not behind us my friend. I believe if we're to step into our better days, we're going to have to elect the right people to serve us.

Our elected officials should represent our own personal ideals and beliefs. But how do we identify the right ones? Well, I'm glad you asked that question. Back in 2008 during the election that saw us elect our first African American president, I asked Republican, Democratic and Libertarian leaders from across Texas this very question. And their statements seem to have more value today than they did back then. Texas Supreme Court Justice, Wallace B. Jefferson issued this response: "The public benefits from a steady hand during times of crisis -- someone dedicated to evaluating whatever emergency is presented; conferring with all affected, and then making clear decisions together with contingency plans for unanticipated complications."

To guide our nation, families, and businesses out of the place where we find ourselves today, we're going to have to do it together as Americans. Be blessed, empowered, inspired, motivated and even rejuvenated if need be; this ain't the time to get tired!

THOUGHT #1

NOTHING CAN STOP YOU FROM ACHIEVING YOUR GOD-GIVEN DREAM! -- "No weapon formed against you shall prosper." -- ISAIAH 54:17 - “It doesn't matter what you're trying to do in life; you're going to have obstacles, tests, trials and people to come against you and what you've been called to do. Your challenge is going to be to stay encouraged and not allow anything to discourage or deter you from your God-given and inspired goal. And remember that nothing that tries to come against you can stop God's will and plan for your life from coming to pass.”

THOUGHT #2

YOU WILL ACHIEVE YOUR DREAM IF YOU DON'T QUIT! -- "Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established." -- PROVERBS: 16:3 - “Many times in life people start things under their own power and then ask God to bless what they're trying to do -- but not you. That drive you feel deep down on the inside; that still small voice you hear telling you to keep going and not to quit, is the spirit of the LORD urging and prodding you to move forward. The enemy would like nothing more than for you to quit moving toward the promise that's been planted in your spirit; but that's not what you're going to do. Rededicate what you're doing to God and keep it moving. Your thoughts are going to be realized and established if you don't quit. Your hopes, dreams and prayers will come to pass.”

THOUGHT #3

YOU CAN DO WHAT YOU'RE CALLED TO DO! -- "When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him." -- PROVERBS: 16:7 - “Even our worst critics can be used by our Father to propel us forward. Even the hardest of hearts can be commanded to show us favor and grace. So just keep striving to please God. Keep striving to please God. You must keep striving to please God and let Him handle those who may be trying to keep His plan for your life from coming to pass. He can handle our enemies, critics and adversaries better than we ever can.”

THOUGHT #4

IT'S BEEN WORKED OUT ALREADY! -- "The lot is cast into the lap; but the whole disposing thereof is of the LORD." -- PROVERBS 16:33 - “You and I are fighting in a battle that's been rigged in our favor. From the time we entered this world God has been orchestrating and ordering our steps. Sure, we don't always listen. Sure, we aren't always obedient. Yes, we even fall short sometimes too. But never forget that God has already predetermined the outcome of every battle you and I are going to face in our lifetimes. And don't ever forget that your Father has given you the winning hand."

THOUGHT #5

WE MUST USE WISDOM WITH OUR WORDS! -- "A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger." -- PROVERBS 15:1 - “There are some people we just have to deal with in life -- there's just no way around that. People are brought into our lives for specific reasons during specific seasons. It could be someone close to you who's getting on your last nerve; a bill collector; a boss who's not treating you fairly; or someone you love dearly -- I don't know. But just remember that we can't change or control the actions of others and how they respond to us; but we can change how we choose to respond to them. Sometimes our approach has to be altered a bit to keep peace flowing; and to get what we want out of a given situation. The right word spoken in the right tone can be a deal maker; just like the wrong word can be a deal breaker.”

THOUGHT #6

BE CAREFUL WHO YOU ALLOW TO COME ALONG FOR THE RIDE! -- "Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour." -- PROVERBS: 19:4 - “Not everybody in our lives are meant to come along for the full ride. As you grow in popularity and wealth, just be really careful who you allow to enter into your inner-circle. Be wise and use Godly discernment in your personal and professional dealings. And by all means, don't allow just anyone to hitch their boxcar to your train.”

THOUGHT #7

NOBODY CAN DO YOU BETTER THAN YOU! -- "A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men." -- PROVERBS 18:16 - “Right now the stage is being set for you. There are no over-night successes. Luck has nothing to do with it! People spend lifetimes being prepared and sacrificing before we''re ever even aware that they exist. God has created you in a unique mold that he threw away once you were created. You are uniquely formed, prepared and anointed with gifting and talents that nobody else on earth has been given. Nobody can beat you at being you; just remember that today.”

THOUGHT #8

TALKING ALONE WON'T BRING OUR DREAMS TO PASS! -- "In all labour there is profit; but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury." -- PROVERBS 14:23 - “The American College Dictionary defines penury as: 1. Extreme Poverty; Destitution. 2. Dearth or insufficiency. Sure, we must speak and talk about what we're going to do in life; that's an important part of the process. But at some point actions must follow our words; or we're going to find ourselves in a state of extreme poverty and destitution. We must speak it; but we must also be an active participant in the process of bringing what we're speaking into existence to pass.”

THOUGHT #9

WE CAN MOVE MOUNTIANS WITH OUR WORDS! -- "If ye have faith as a grain of a mustard seed...nothing shall be impossible unto you!" -- MATTHEW 17:20 - “Always believe! Keep believing! Never stop believing! How long? Keep on believing for as long as it takes for you to lay hold of that which has been promised to you. The enemy can smell unbelief from a mile away. And unbelief opens the door for fear to creep into our lives. Jesus said, “Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, if ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” I found that in the 17th Chapter and 20th verse of the book of Matthew.

THOUGHT #10

GOD KNOWS THE WAY! -- "I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee how to profit, which leadeth the by the way that thou shouldest go." -- ISAIAH 48:17 - “God knows exactly what we need and how He's going to get it to us; and how to lead us to it too. Keep trusting, praying believing, and praising God for getting you the provision needed to accomplish the vision you've been given. For, whenever God has given us a vision, He's obligated to provide us with provision we need to accomplish the vision we've been given.”

THOUGHT #11

PRAISE GOD IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR VICTORY! -- "Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness" -- PSALMS 150:2 - “You are already a winner! You've already won! If the enemy was going to be able to stop you, he would have done it already. The fact that you're reading this thought today is proof positive that God isn't through with you yet. Keep praising him for the good He's done, doing and about to do in your life.”

THOUGHT #12

OUR FATHER IS WORTHY TO BE PRAISED! -- "Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the LORD." -- ISAIAH 150:6 - “The funny thing about God is that He sometimes will choose the unlikeliest of individuals to accomplish extraordinary things in the world. He can use anyone he chooses; so why not you? You're chosen, anointed, appointed and well-able to accomplish every God-given and inspired goal that's been planted in your spirit. Praise God for his goodness, faithfulness and perfect love today. And keep it moving!”

THOUGHT #13

YOUR DREAM WILL COME TO PASS! -- "Commit thy way unto the LORD, trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass." --PSALMS 37:5 - “We can't do it on our own. God can do more in one day than you or I could do in a lifetime of trying on our own. Our biggest challenge is to make sure that our dreams and desires are in line with His will for our lives. Once we do that, we must remain in Him and stay on the path that has been chosen for us. God is carefully watching over His plan for our lives and is surely going to cause it to be realized.”

THOUGHT #14

GOD'S THOUGHTS ARE HIGHER THAN OURS! -- "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD." -- ISAIAH: 55:8 - “Don't sweat the small stuff. Even if you can't see the way, you must keep going. God already knows what He's going to do about what concerns you today. So don't sweat the stuff that you have no control over anyway.”

THOUGHT #15

DON'T FORGET WHO HELPED YOU! -- " ...Remember the LORD thy God: for it is He that giveth thee power to get wealth." -- DEUTERONOMY 8:18 - “God has a predetermined path for you and I to travel to get to the promise that He's already prepared for us. It really doesn't matter if we're talking about our personal, professional or political lives; God is our helper in every area of our lives. So we can't leave our Father out of any part of the decision making process. I've made this mistake many times in my life; and it's a costly mistake to make. So never forget who's working on your behalf.”

THOUGHT #16

GOD GIVES US WEALTH FOR A PURPOSE! -- “...That he may establish His covenant which He sware unto thy Fathers...this day." -- DEUTERONOMY 8:18 - “There's a purpose and reason for everything that our Father allows to happen in our lives. And He's going to allow wealth to come into our lives so His will can be accomplished in our lives and the world around us. But it's not going to be so we can harbor and amass an abundance of wealth. God wants us to be a distribution center and a gateway to cause people to see His goodness in our world; that they may praise Him for His goodness in the land.”

THOUGHT #17

FAVOR IS WORKING FOR YOU! -- “The heart of the King is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: He turneth it whithersoever He will." -- PROVERBS 21:1 - “God can use whomever He desires to bless us. And He can give us favor before any king. It doesn't matter whether we're talking about a Judge, a debt collector, or the President of the United States. God knows how to turn the heart of a person toward His elect. You do your part; and let him handle that which is beyond your control.”

THOUGHT #18
