Ed Emmett (i) - Republican Speaks: TAYLOR: How important is good leadership during times of crisis? JUDGE EMMETT: Leadership is critical during times of crisis, but effective leadership is born of preparation. The best leader with great instincts and skills will only be successful if he is prepared. TAYLOR: Do you consider yourself to be a leader? If so, in what way? JUDGE EMMETT: In different positions and endeavors throughout my life, I have been viewed as a leader. I firmly believe my demeanor and approach have provided vision and strategy, but the key to my style is to find the right people to place in the right positions with the right preparation. TAYLOR: Other than yourself, who is the most effective leader you know alive today? JUDGE EMMETT: I would not select one person. On a daily basis, I see great leaders in neighborhoods, churches, and organizations. Their leadership, taken collectively, makes our community and nation great. TAYLOR: Why should Harris County-area voters choose you on Tuesday, November 4th? JUDGE EMMETT: During my tenure as County Judge, I have managed to create a broad vision for the nation's third largest county. Harris County is in the forefront with mobility plans, our efforts to reform the juvenile justice system, improving health care delivery and we have the strongest possible financial position. Our emergency preparedness and response, as seen during Hurricane Ike, is the model for the nation. There is still much to do and I would be honored to continue leading this great county. |
