Jim Henley - Democrat Speaks: TAYLOR: How important is good leadership during times of crisis? HENLEY: Good leadership is critical in a crisis! Great leadership anticipates and seeks to prevent a crisis. There are times when a crisis cannot be prevented, a great leader should have plans in place to mitigate the impact and duration of such an event. TAYLOR: Do you consider yourself to be a leader? If so, in what way? HENLEY: I have been a teacher and debate coach for 20 years. My debate team at Sidney Lanier Middle School grew to over 200 students. We traveled across America and won five national championships and returned all students to their parents safe and sound. If I can do that with middle school students, I think I am ready for anything! TAYLOR: Other than yourself, who is the most effective leader you know alive today? HENLEY: In my opinion there is no great leader on the international or national stage at this time. I have a short list of leaders in recent history who lead their people in a unpopular direction because it was in their long term interest. TAYLOR: Why should Harris County-area voters choose you on Tuesday, November 4th? HENLEY: Voters should vote for me because I have the respect and support of the students whom I have taught and their families. They know that I sought to inspire each of them to reach out and claim their God given potential. As a Trustee of The Harris County Department of Education, I will bring this same expectation to all who are employed to serve our children. |
