Joe W. Beverly - Democrat Speaks: TAYLOR: How important is good leadership during times of crisis? BEVERLY: Creative and effective leadership is always needed especially during times of crisis. I believe true leaders are made, not born, and that everyone has the potential to be an effective leader in some aspect of their lives. In a crisis situation, however, certain individuals must take charge and use their skills to help their fellow citizens to weather the storm. TAYLOR: Do you consider yourself to be a leader? If so, in what way? I think we all wish we were better leaders. BEVERLY: I have been in supervisory and management positions at various times throughout my career. But the key to good leadership is effective communication and decisiveness. You must be willing to listen to others, incorporate the best advice and motivate others to follow along. TAYLOR: Other than yourself, who is the most effective leader you know alive today? BEVERLY: The most effective leaders that I have known have been the best teachers. I think teaching is the hardest and most important job. Teachers must motivate, communicate and lead. TAYLOR: Why should Harris County-area voters choose you on Tuesday, November 4th? BEVERLY: I have the experience and qualifications to be a fair and effective Chief Justice of the 14th Court of Appeals. I have been practicing trial and appellate law all over Texas for 17 years. I have represented every type of client from multi-national corporations, to small businesses to everyday working people. I know what both sides of the bar and their clients face in seeking justice in our court system. I am board certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Prior to moving to Houston I was a Briefing Attorney for the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals - the highest criminal court in the State. I have the support of many great lawyers in the community. I will work hard every day to ensure that the rights of Texas citizens are protected and that the integrity of court system is ensured. |
