Alex Cresswell - Libertarian Speaks: TAYLOR: How important is good leadership during times of crisis? CRESSWELL: Good leadership is critical during times of crisis. In a crisis situation there is a huge pressure to respond, and respond strongly, however if there is not strong leadership the response will simply be dictated by popular opinion, and not by the principles that our country was founded upon. A perfect illustration of this is 9/11 and the passage of the PATRIOT Act. This act a reaction based out of fear, and is a threat to the fundamental freedoms established by our constitution. Had there been strong leadership in Congress, this bill would never had even made it to the floor for a vote. TAYLOR: Do you consider yourself to be a leader? If so, in what way? CRESSWELL: To lead is to stand for what you believe in. Leaders often come under attack for what they believe, but strong leaders will not falter no matter what they are faced with. Leading is really a choice to honor your word under any circumstances. If a leader gives his word that he will not vote for any tax increases, then that is what he will do. I will honor my word, and will uphold the principles of freedom, and choice. TAYLOR: Other than yourself, who is the most effective leader you know alive today? CRESSWELL: Bob Barr is a personal hero of mine, and the only candidate that I would be willing to cast my vote for President in the coming election. Despite his black-out by the media, and exclusion from the debates, he continues to hold to his principles, and honors the intentions that the founders of the United States laid out in the Constitution, not be involved in the redistribution of wealth, whereas the candidates Obama, and McCain would instead fund a corporate bailout with our tax dollars instead of dealing with the underlying issues of our banking system. TAYLOR: Why should Harris County-area voters choose you on Tuesday, November 4th? CRESSWELL: I have a vision of Texas as a leader among the United States of America. In education for our schools and programs to lead the nation as the best state for education both public and private, and as allowing the greatest choice through a school voucher program for parents to choose which school their children attend. In responsible spending, as being the first state to pass an amendment to our constitution that limits increases in spending to be dictated by population growth, and adjusted for inflation. To be known as a responsible state with tax payer dollars, producing the most benefit to citizens with welfare money, and cutting our spending in welfare programs that are not effective. To be a leader in health care, by providing the legal foundation for affordable health care. |
