"All About Bipartisanship" - Comments

Dwayne Bohac (i) - Republican Speaks:

TAYLOR: How important is good leadership during times of crisis? STATE REP. BOHAC: Leadership during time of crisis is absolutely vital to our community and state. During my time in the legislature, I have always handled tough situations with one question in mind: "What is best for my district?" Having this mindset helps keep me calm and enables me to take on challenges and tough votes knowing that I am doing what I think is absolutely best for my district, no matter the situation.

TAYLOR: Do you consider yourself to be a leader? If so, in what way? STATE REP. BOHAC: In the Texas House of Representatives, I have taken a leadership role in addressing tough issues that affect my district and our state such as property tax appraisal reform. I have been a leader on this issue in the Texas House, and next session I will file legislation that will lower the homeowner property tax appraisal cap from 10% to 5% or less. By limiting skyrocketing appraisals, we can keep property taxes under control. This issue is vital to my district and I am proud to be a leader on appraisal reform in the Texas House.

TAYLOR: Other than yourself, who is the most effective leader you know alive today? STATE REP. BOHAC: Meg Whitman, former CEO of eBay. I respect Meg Whitman because she epitomizes the entrepreneurial spirit that makes our country the best in the world. Through hard work and dedication, she took a small auction website and made it one if the most successful businesses in the United States.

TAYLOR: Why should Harris County-area voters choose you on Tuesday, November 4th? STATE REP. BOHAC: With support from my district I will continue delivering results for our community. Working with my constituents, I have helped pass the largest property tax cut in Texas history, and plan to introduce legislation to lower the property tax appraisal cap from 10% to 5% or less. I voted for a moratorium on the Trans Texas Corridor and oppose foreign ownership of Texas roads. I helped pass $100 million in additional border security funding to help curb drug and human trafficking, and I support requiring a valid Texas photo ID to vote. And I will continue to make public education my top priority. In the past, I have increased teacher pay, provided a 13th check for retired teachers, authored legislation that restored the Pledge of Allegiance in our public schools, and replaced the TAKS test with end of course exams so teachers aren't forced to teach to the test. I will also work to end Robin Hood.
