Dale Wainwright (i) - Republican Speaks: TAYLOR: How important is good leadership during times of crisis? Justice Wainwright chose not to answer this question. However, when asked whether the Honorable Justice considered himself a leader he replied: A leader has the integrity to do the right thing for the right reason and the courage to do so when political expediency would suggest a different course. TAYLOR: Other than yourself, who is the most effective leader you know alive today? JUSTICE WAINWRIGHT: No Answer TAYLOR: Why should Harris County-area voters choose you on Tuesday, November 4th? JUSTICE WAINWRIGHT: I am the incumbent seeking reelection for Texas Supreme Court, Place 7, and I have an abiding faith in the values that make Texas and America great: faith, family, patriotism and equal justice under the law. I am the experienced candidate having served almost six years on the high Court, almost four years as a trial judge, and over a decade in private practice before becoming a judge. My record shows that I make an independent judgment in each case, do not legislature from the bench and have written opinions in which both defendants and plaintiffs have been successful, when the law and the facts compel that conclusion. I am experienced, fair and balanced and have shown the fortitude to make tough decisions after careful review of cases Most of the major newspapers in the state have endorsed me including, the Houston Chronicle, the San Antonio Express News, the Fort Worth Star Telegram, the Bryan-College Station Eagle, the Lubbock Avalanche Journal, the Amarillo Globe News, the Midland Reporter-Telegram, and the Daily Texan. In addition, many respected community leaders recognize that I am fair and balanced jurist and have conducted myself with integrity on the bench. I have been endorsed by a wide variety of organizations including the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (PAC), Texas Association of Realtors, HOSPAC (the state political action committee of the Texas Hospital Association), TEXPAC (the political advocacy arm of the Texas Medical Association), the C Club (Houston), the Houston Realty Breakfast Club PAC, Texas Alliance for Life PAC, Texas Civil Justice League PAC, and Texans for Lawsuit Reform PAC. I have been rated most qualified to serve as in Place 7 on the Texas Supreme Court in every bar poll in the state of Texas this election cycle. I was preferred by nearly a two to one margin over my opponent in almost all of them. Seventeen of the last twenty former presidents of the Houston Bar Association have endorsed me. Some of my other key endorsements include former U.S. Secretary of State James A Baker, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and U.S. Senator John Cornyn. |
