Lt. Governor David Dewhurst (Re-Election) Talks to Houston Business Connections: Tells Publisher Aubrey R. Taylor why Harris County voters should choose him in the Nov. 7, 2006, General Election

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR DEWHURST: "The past four years have been filled with significant accomplishments that will improve the overall quality of life for all Texans. The significant progress that has been made could not have been done without your friendship and your support at the ballot box. I want to take this time to personally thank you for the trust you have placed in me and let you know that I will continue working tirelessly on your behalf.

For all the accomplishments, that have been made, such as lowering local school property taxes and improving the quality of our schools, we cannot stop asking more from our public officials. We owe it to future generations to continue to make Texas the best place to live, raise a family, and grow a business.

As I look to November, I hope I can count on your support for my pro-family, pro-growth agenda. I am a candidate who makes promises. I am a Lieutenant Governor who keeps them.

I am committed to addressing four major issues during my next term: protecting our children from sexual & internet predators, continuing to improve our children's education, stemming the tide of illegal immigration, and conserving our natural resources while maintaining a healthy business climate.

On the horizon, I can clearly see that our best days truly are in front of us. As Lt. Governor, I'm determined to leave Texas a better place for the children of tomorrow. It is an honor to serve you. I hope I can count on your support today, tomorrow, and in the future."

Maria Luisa Alvarado (Candidate for Lt. Governor of Texas) Talks to Houston Business Connections: Tells Publisher Aubrey R. Taylor why Harris County voters should choose her in the Nov. 7, 2006, General Election

ALVARADO: "In 2005, I found myself with one of two choices for what role I would play in the future of this place I call home, Texas. The easy choice was to let someone else with more money, experience, and connections take up the task of challenging elected officials that have forgotten that they are accountable to the all citizens. I chose to seek the office for Lt. Governor.

At the end of the third Special Session of the 79th Legislature, our state leaders claimed they kept their promises of lowering property taxes, teacher pay raises, improving public education, and so on. I suggest the results of their last ditch effort to appease Texans actually leaves hard-working families behind. Therefore, my reasons for seeking this office remain strong and necessary. It is not good for Texas to accept mediocre solutions to problems that risk the prosperity for more and more Texans.

I invite you to vote for me as your next Lt. Governor because I offer a vision that defies mediocrity as a standard for our place in this country and the world in education, healthcare, living wages, veteran issues, and the protection of our rights as a sovereign people. I will employ this office fully so that all sources of prosperity for our citizens can be sought and acquired. With a balanced and fair approach, Texas will rank higher in many areas than it does right now. Share the vision."

Judy Baker (Candidate for Lt. Governor of Texas) Talks to Houston Business Connections: Tells Publisher Aubrey R. Taylor why Harris County voters should choose her in the Nov. 7, 2006, General Election

BAKER: "This is where I stand on the following issues."

On Education: The quality of our public schools has declined with increased state control of money and policies for our local school systems. Families should have the option to let their children attend schools that provide the type of environment and education that fits their needs.

As Lt. Governor, I will promote legislation to return the right to make these decisions to individual citizens.

On Prisons: We are releasing violent offenders prematurely to make room for peaceful drug users, and the drug problem will keep getting worse under our current drug policies.

As Lt. Governor, I will promote legislation to focus law enforcement resources on violent crimes.

On Property: The Supreme Court has ruled that eminent domain can include taking individuals’ property for private use, distorting the Constitution’s “public use” limitations on eminent domain.

As Lt. Governor, I will promote legislation that protects the property rights of all Texans.
