The Texas Libertarian Party Chairman (Patrick Dixon) Speaks to Aubrey R. Taylor, publisher of Houston Business Connections Newspaper about leadership, and why Harris County-area voters should choose Libertarian candidates on Election Day Patrick Dixon Libertarian Party Chairman TAYLOR: How important is good leadership during times of crisis? CHAIRMAN DIXON: I doubt anyone would argue that leadership is not important at any time, but it is also necessary in order to prevent a crisis before it occurs. It is at times of crisis that the temptation for a leader to become a dictator grows. A great leader has followers that sincerely believe in the mission instead of being coerced to support a mission under threat. TAYLOR: Do you consider yourself to be a leader? If so, in what way? CHAIRMAN DIXON: I am a small business owner. I lead the third largest and fastest growing political party in one of the largest states in the most powerful nation. I serve on my second term on city council in Lago Vista, TX. I am president of an organization that builds hiking trails. I am vice president of a classical music organization. In summary I have taken leadership positions and will let my record speak for itself. Those that evaluate my background, or ask members of these organizations I work with can judge my leadership. TAYLOR: Other than yourself, who is the most effective leader you know alive today? CHAIRMAN DIXON: Of the many people I can mention I would present John Mackey, CEO and founder of Whole Foods. I know that Whole Foods has encountered turbulence in the last year as have many others, but Mackey's vision is unique and bold. From a small business owner who had his business wiped out by a flood, he persevered and took risks. To have a globally successful business that created a new industry is testament to his leadership. His "Conscious Capitalism" concept is another bold and positive departure from the status quo. I know there are many other effective leaders deserving of mention and it is difficult to single out one. TAYLOR: Why should Harris County-area voters choose Libertarian candidates on Tuesday, November 4th? CHAIRMAN DIXON: The Libertarian Party is the only choice for voters to regain leadership of their lives, their families, their property. Our nation was built by strong individuals who took risks, accepted responsibility, and prospered. Today's incumbents propose solutions to problems they created by asking for more of the same control over your lives and your property. How many more bailouts will it take? We understand we are at a disadvantage from unfavorable election code that imposes obstacles for us and insulates incumbents. Despite this, the growing number of votes for Libertarian candidates is being noticed and starting to influence policy. It takes a bold act of leadership on your part as a voter to cast a vote for what you truly believe and not settle for timid compromise. Contact information for the Texas Libertarian Party is P.O.
