Dot Nelson-Turnier (Candidate for House District 150) Talks to Houston Business Connections: Tells Publisher Aubrey R. Taylor why Harris County voters should choose her in the Nov. 7, 2006, General Election NELSON TURNIER: "I have combined career experience of 22 years in international banking and not for profit and governmental accounting. The focal point of my campaign is on Education, Energy, the Environment and Economic issues. I believe in true education reform. It is our moral obligation to provide our children with the tools necessary to succeed in life, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or income level. Parents have the right to choose where their children are educated, but we must not erode the financial base needed to support excellent education for Texas children. We must also return to the day where teaching is the respected profession that it once was. As Texas has led the way in energy, so too should the state lead the way in renewable energy. We can support competitiveness in the energy industry while reaching for goals of renewable energy sources that are market driven and environmentally sound. Additionally, attainment of environmental and industry guidelines should come with incentives and/or consequences and must be met on a reasonable timeline. I furthermore believe Texas is ripe for job development and creation along with job training programs, which will help sustain a growing economy while providing jobs at livable wages. In conclusion, I believe with zero based budgeting, careful analysis, planning and shifting of resources, we will find that there is enough money in both the economic system and the State Budget to find equitable solutions to most of the problems facing us today." |
