State Representative Corbin Van Arsdale (Re-Election Texas State House District 130) Talks to Houston Business Connections: Tells Publisher Aubrey R. Taylor why Harris County voters should choose him in the Nov. 7, 2006, General Election

VAN ARSDALE: "We live in the greatest state, in the greatest nation, in the history of the world. And we live during the height of Texas and America's influence and prosperity. As we continue to work on solving the many problems we still face, it's important that we not get so spoiled and selfish that we forget to be thankful for the blessings God's given us. And no one in world history has been blessed more than we have. We're able to say that because those before us gave their sweat, tears, and blood.

That being said, we do have problems to fix. Government should be part of the solution, not part of the problem. And when government injects itself into a problem, things often get worse.

As a fifth-generation Texan, I'm proud of the fact that our state government is one of the leanest, most limited state governments in the country. We tax less per capita than any other state. We spend less per capita than any other state except Florida. This has created a certain quality of life unmatched by other states.

The respected global intellectual publication The Economist recently featured our state around the world as "America on steroids." No wonder businesses and people are flocking to our state. When Hurricane Katrina hit, those displaced didn't head for Arkansas or Alabama. They headed for Texas.

I want our state legislature to continue to shape policies that keep this good thing going. How do we get here? Bright, progressive, outside-the-box ideas based on conservative principles and common sense. And that's what I'm interested in getting done."

William B. Gray Jr. (Candidate for House District 130) Talks to Houston Business Connections: Tells Publisher Aubrey R. Taylor why Harris County voters should choose him in the Nov. 7, 2006, General Election

GRAY: "I believe in a secure America, with an efficient government collecting minimal taxes. I believe in fair markets and free trade. I believe in freedom and individual responsibility. I believe I can win that vision for all Texans.

If you want your vote to matter, don't vote the lesser of two evils. You tell that candidate that you are voting FOR him/her and their Party's ideas. Vote Libertarian. When Democrats and Republicans see Libertarians getting votes based on decreasing government and increasing liberty, they'll respond.

Illegal aliens - Congress wants to grant them amnesty because "we can't deport that many people"?. Yes we can. The government is just too lazy to do it. Give illegals a choice. If they want citizenship, give them a real social security number, make them pay taxes and fine them for being here illegally. If they don't, fine them and send them home.

Taxes - Taxes are out of control because government spending is out of control. The first step is to reduce government spending, especially corporate welfare.

Property - All rights flow from the right to own property. Our government has fought to strip us of that right. The Supreme Court's ruling in Kelo vs New London grants government at any level to take your property if they can show public benefit, not just use. The Texas legislature has NOT voted against this."
