Diane Trautman (Candidate for House District 127) Talks to Houston Business Connections: Tells Publisher Aubrey R. Taylor why Harris County voters should choose her in the Nov. 7, 2006, General Election TRAUTMAN: "My name is Diane Trautman and I am running for state representative in district 127. I am a former teacher, principal, and professor of education and have lived in the district for 23 years along with my husband and three children. This election is about people, and after visiting with people all over my district by going door to door and visiting community organizations, I am convinced that people want an elected representative who will talk to them, meet with them, and provide answers. That is what I pledge to the people of district 127, to be accountable and accessible. People in my district also deserve and have a right to expect quality schools, lower taxes, clean air, and an ethical representative. If elected, I will work to obtain increased funding for public education by tapping existing sources such as the new business revenue tax, the lottery, and the gasoline tax instead of increasing taxes. This revenue would also be used to increase teacher salaries and give our teacher retirees a cost of living raise they have not had in 5 years. I will work to make sure that all of our homeowners receive a property tax decrease including our senior citizens, and I will work to improve our air quality and environment by supporting anti-pollution legislation. I will sponsor ethics reform legislation requiring a record to be kept of all legislative votes and attendance and make them easily available to the public. If you send me to Austin in November, I will be accountable, accessible, represent the public interest, not private interests, and I will get the job done." |
