Many of the problems we face today are the result of the federal government exceeding the clear limits established in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution. The Founders envisioned a society in which social and political issues were resolved first at the local level, then at the state level, and only rarely and only in carefully circumscribed situations at the federal level. There was a reason for this. Government that is closer to the people is more responsive, less intrusive, and more efficient. A return to Constitutional limits will make our federal government much smaller, less expensive, and less destructive than it is today.
